The Mayor of Lynn Street
Mr. Willie, we'll miss you. There is just no way of describing just how much you meant to us. When we moved here 23 years ago, the first thing we had to do was tear out the bathroom floor and replace the toilet. The first thing I knew, there was a man with plumbing tools, standing in my hallway asking "Do you need some help? "
That was just the kind of man he was.
We had never had a neighbor like him before. He'd walk over when we were in the yard and tell us what we needed to do for our pear and plum trees. Often, we'd come home to find that he's pruned them or fertilized the yard.
And he was this way with not only us, but the rest of the neighborhood, too.
I don't know how many children he and his wife fostered. I don't know how many children he took on vacations with his own kids. I don't know how many lives he touched. I'll never know all the acts of kindness this man performed.I'm not sure you could count them all. but just know,He was and will forever be........
The Mayor of Lynn Street.
In Memory of Willie J. Godbee who passed September 14, 2007
