Hearing God

I did something the other day that I don't usually do. We were on the way to my son's doctor for his physical and we stopped for gas.I saw a man walking down the highway with his briefcase and lunch bag. He was dressed nice and wearing dress shoes. I didn't know then why I noticed that, but I found out later.
I finished getting gas and paid and pulled out.
We were stopped at the redlight when I saw him again. This time he was walking up the ramp that leads to the parkway. When the light turned green, I pulled past him and pulled to the side of the road
Something deep inside told me to pull over and wait for him. My son started questioning me and when I told him we were going to offer the man a ride, he started questioning my sanity.
"Why are you doing this?" he asked.
How do you tell your child that you have to do this and sound sane?
"Because I think I need to."
"Mom, are you crazy? He could be a killer."
Of course, this is my "worrier"child. The one that doesn't take many chances.
'He could be but God is telling me he's not and he is telling me to ask him if he needs a ride."
"Daddy's not going to like this", he warned.
"Okay, but I am doing it anyway."
About that time, the man was almost even with the back window but cautiously walking on the other side of the road.
I rolled the window down and asked him if he wanted a ride. I said I could take him as far as the Walmart but that was all.
He was as nervous as my son . Very shakily, he got into the back seat.
"I am going to the Walmart, do you need to go that far?" I asked because I really didn't need to go that far but it seemed a safe place to go.
Admittedly, I was not quite sure I wanted to be doing this either.
"Well, honestly", he said," I only need to go to Godley Station."
This is where my son's doctor's office is. There is a residential neighborhood in the same area.
"Okay," I said. I can take you as far as the doctor's complex."
As we were nearing the area, he said. "Thank you for picking me up,My feet are really hurting."
I laughed and said I had noticed he wasn't wearing walking shoes.
"No, my car broke down and I had walked about 2 miles. My wife isn't home and the only thing I could do was walk home."
I asked, "Were you praying for a ride?"
He seemed surprised but answered "Yes, "
"Well, I guess God was listening, because this is not something I'd ordinarily do. A voice deep inside told me to stop for you. God heard your prayers."
He asked "Are you a Christian?" He sounded a little relieved.
"Yes, I am and I believe in prayer and that God hears us even when we ask for small things like a ride."
"Amen" he answered.
As it turned out, he goes to church with my cousin and her family.
The funny thing is my son had just said the night before that he doesn't know if he believes that God hears us. He's 14, and that questioning age.
Isn't it great how God knows what we are thinking and just the way to show His self to us?
I couldn't have thought of any better way to answer my sons doubt !
